“Zero to hero!” Homeless Connor Achieves Goals of Becoming A Chef

Once you are referred to us for support, you’ll be assigned someone from Peopleplus dedicated to get you to where you want to go. They will discuss your interests, needs, goals and your existing skills and will work with you to create a personal action plan to help you in your journey into work.

Success Story

After losing his previous job, Connor had moved to Ipswich to start over. Homeless, with nothing and no one to turn to, Connor was willing to take any job he could to work towards his goal of being a fully-qualified Chef.

Upon registering for free with the MyGo service, Connor met his personal career coach Helen. “After a very bumpy start we managed to find Connor some local accommodation at the YMCA” Helen said. Working on his soft-employability skills was a priority for Helen, referring him to the MyGo training team who helped build-up his confidence and communication skills, alongside helping him to write a professional CV and practising his interview skills.

MyGo arranged for Connor to take part in a Level 3 Food & Hygiene course, providing him with an industry-essential certificate for working in Hospitality.

Following some well-attempted job interviews, Connor worked with MyGo ERM Richard Osborne to personally find him some local Hospitality jobs, bringing him a step closer to his goal of becoming a chef. Richard represented Connor in front of MyGo recruitment-partner Isaac Lorde, where Connor was invited to apply for an interview for a Level 2 Chef apprenticeship.

MyGo are proud to announce that Connor is now officially a fully-qualified Chef working at the immensely popular Isaacs on the Ipswich waterfront.

“I had just moved to Ipswich and I knew no one. The only people who actually helped me land on my feet were the people at MyGo” Connor told us. “It’s all thanks to my coaches Helen and Lisa, and Richard for helping me”

Connor is now looking forward to completing his apprenticeship and furthering his career as a chef.
