Our client wins Rolls Royce Award for Newcomer Large Employer of the Year

A hugely successful apprenticeship scheme delivered by PeoplePlus for removals giant Pickfords has scooped a major award for our client.

Pickfords was crowned this year’s winner of the Rolls Royce Awards for Newcomer Large Employer of the Year at the London region National Apprenticeship Awards.

The win, which saw them beat dozens of large employers across London, will now see them go through to next stage of the prestigious awards to compete for the national title, on January 20.

Mark Taylor, Network Director, Pickfords, and Sherrie Henrick, pictured, collected the award on behalf of Pickfords on Monday (October 17). PeoplePlus, which delivers Pickfords' apprenticeship scheme and supported their entry to the awards, was represented by Project Manager – Skills, Gail Campbell.

Pickfords teamed up with PeoplePlus last year to attract new talent through an apprenticeship scheme and roll out a dedicated learning and development programme called LEAP to enable current employees to gain a higher level of skills directly linked to demand from the business.

As a result, Pickfords has gone on to create opportunities for 25 apprentices within a range of roles including porters, drivers, team leaders and managers, and more than 50 employees are currently on the LEAP scheme, which was developed by PeoplePlus, in conjunction with Pickfords.

Talking about the partnership, Mark Taylor said: “I’m delighted to say that the apprenticeship programme is bringing real business benefits. By using the PeoplePlus’s recruitment service, we have saved costs and have sourced excellent candidates, and they're bringing a fresh injection of talent into our established business operations. The scheme has offered young people the opportunity to take the first step in their careers, and we hope that many of our apprentices will be the managers of the future.”

The National Apprenticeship Awards, run by the Government’s National Apprenticeship Service, challenge top apprenticeship employers across England to come forward and show how apprenticeships have made a difference to their businesses. The awards are now in their 12th year.
