The NEA market brings together business owners, business mentors and benefits claimants to share tips, experiences and specialist advice available for starting up your own business

Today is an exciting day for four of our self-employed customers as they take over London’s Borough Market in a one-day event organised by Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to display their wares and raise awareness of the New Enterprise Allowance (NEA).

The NEA market brings together seven business owners, business mentors and benefits claimants interested in self employment to share tips and experiences about joining the scheme and the specialist advice available for starting up. Minister for Employment Esther McVey visited the market, getting to know the business owners and sharing her on thoughts about the importance of self-employment to the economy and programmes such as NEA.

We’re delighted to see some of the businesses we’ve helped to set up generate so much interest and enthusiasm amongst members of the DWP, journalists and passers-by. Here is a bit about who they are: Chica Press – Maria Yanire Sylva Delgado is an Ecuadorian artist based in London, specialising in ceramics, books and print making. Armed with plenty of talent and a motto she lives and breathes ‘Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful’, Maria approached PeoplePlus to access NEA funds and start her business. You can see some of the beautiful creations on her website.
