Functional Skills Level 1
Level 1 is the second highest qualification in Functional Skills you can obtain and marks a step up from the three Entry Levels. It is equivalent to levels 1-3 in GCSE.
Functional Skills English Level 1
Achieving a Functional Skills English Level 1 qualification means a learner will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to read, listen to and understand information in contexts such as: persuasive, informative, instructive, descriptive or explanatory
- Be able to respond, either in written or verbal form, to this input using the correct level of formality, clarity, coherence, detail, structure and accuracy
- Use punctuation such as: colons, commas, inverted commas, apostrophes and quotation marks, as well as being confident using grammatical features such subjects, verbs, tenses and modalities.
Functional Skills maths Level 1
Functional Skills maths Level 1 is broken down into two segments: a non-calculator section and a calculator section. Upon completion of this qualification, a learner will be able to:
- Increase their confidence with non-calculator methods and strategies
- Develop a deeper understanding of several skills including formulae, probability and volume
- Make decisions and choices based in mathematical reasoning
- Complete two-stage mathematical problems.
Both English and maths Functional Skills Level 1 are equivalent to a GCSE grade 1-3 with the next step being working towards a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification.
