National Apprenticeship Week 2019
National Apprenticeship Week took place from 4th-8th March this year. To celebrate the week, PeoplePlus shared news of some of our great success stories to date and by offering awards to remarkable apprentices we have been working with this year.
Here’s a snapshot of what took place;
In Glasgow, we presented an award for Learner of the Year to Jack Heathwood. Jack has completed a Level 2 qualification in Business Administration through PeoplePlus. Jack started his apprenticeship in May last year with Castle Residential with no previous knowledge of the industry. Over the past 9 months, Jack has developed his role and has always shown a willingness to learn. He is now waiting for his certificate and will progress onto his Level 3 Business Administration.
Jack’s coach said “This is an amazing example of how employers can really make a difference to people’s lives by taking on a young person with no prior experience and giving them the opportunity to grow.”
As well as Jack, Verity Hope, a learner in Edinburgh also received an award during National Apprenticeship Week. She started an apprenticeship with Lloyds Bank. While already a full time employee with Lloyds, Verity wanted to progress herself and gain further business skills.
Verity said “Generally speaking, the apprenticeship was insightful and fun. Paired with Janice it was the perfect balance of achievement and obtainable growth.” When asked what her advice would be to anyone considering an apprenticeship she said “Do it!”.
We work very closely with Lloyds Banking Group who are one of the top 10 employers for hiring apprentices. Other learners we have supported with the help of Lloyds bank include Laura, who is currently studying a Level 3 Financial Services qualification and Antonella who was advised to join the apprenticeship programme after gaining employment with Lloyds bank.
After completing her Level 2 apprenticeship, Antonella was offered a promotion. She told her tutor “PeoplePlus staff helped me in so many ways. First and foremost they offered me SUPPORT,
whatever I needed, even if it was not related to the apprenticeship or work I knew I could count on them; it went so good that I am happy to say that I managed to actually find a friend in my tutor.”
Quotes like this remind us why we are so proud to support matching employers with apprentices and how we contribute to changing lives every day.
We work with many employers and organisations such as Lloyds bank and we feel it is important to recognise the contribution they make to apprentices every day. One such organisation is Church Crookham Nursery who won the PeoplePlus Most Supportive Team award last week. Currently the nursery have five members completing a Level 3 award with support from our tutors, and the nursery team tell us “We are extremely dedicated and passionate about achieving the qualification and we are incredibly proud of all their hard work.”
Another fantastic employer to work with is the University of Edinburgh who partnered with us to provide apprentices like Lewis Machin. Lewis was awarded Apprentice of the Year due to his outstanding work on his Level 2 Apprenticeship in AAT Accounting. When we first interviewed Lewis it was obvious that he was going to be a success as he was clearly very driven and determined. So much so that he has now progressed onto a Level 3 course with us.
Lewis says “I have found the programme to be a brilliant opportunity. My confidence has improved greatly since I started”.
Every week our hardworking and dedicated team of tutors, account managers, leaders and co-ordinators successfully match the right apprentice to the right employer. They are driven by our ethos to change lives and the individuals mentioned are just a few we work with.
