PeoplePlus have banned the box!
We believe it is important to practice what we preach and lead the way in the ex-offender jobs market. We are proud to announce that with the support of Business in the Community, we have officially ‘Banned the Box’
Business in the Community’s ‘Ban the Box’ campaign calls on UK employers to remove the tick box around criminal convictions at application stage, and leave the question until later in the recruitment process – putting an end to the unfair discrimination of ex-offenders at initial stages.
Candidates with a criminal record can now apply for jobs at PeoplePlus with the knowledge that they will be assessed on their ability to do the job before any convictions are fairly considered.
It is widely known that finding employment upon release is the most effective way to reduce reoffending. However after serving their sentence ex-offenders are finding there are an ever increasing amount of barriers to finding paid work; such as employer perception and the culture of having to disclose previous convictions on application forms despite having served their time.
PeoplePlus Justice is a market leader in providing education, training and advice in prisons through the delivery of the Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS). We also support ex-offenders in the community through our Warwickshire and West Mercia Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) and we’re committed to tackling the underlying causes of offending. Our decision to ‘ban the box’ within our own organisation further cements our commitment to our pledge to transform lives and businesses through work, training, education and financial advice.
