‘His eyes were rolling and he was blue’: Previous PeoplePlus learner saves collapsed commuter’s life

Bryan Stokell joined PeoplePlus in July 202 to do a Security Course with tutor Colin M. On completion he gained employment with a well known security company. Whilst on duty in January 2021 at Middlesbrough bus station a commuter fell to the floor and had stopped breathing.

Alerted by worried members of the public, Bryan, 42, from Stockton, sprang into action with chest compressions. He kept going even though Andrew stopped breathing three times, suffering three cardiac arrests, a heart attack and a stroke in front of him.

Eventually, with the aid of a defibrillator from the bus station office, Bryan managed to keep Andrew breathing until paramedics arrived and took over.

Thankfully, Andrew survived and the pair have formed a close bond in recent weeks, they are planning to meet up once Covid-19 restrictons allow.

Bryan had this to say:

“Without the help of Colin and PeoplePlus I would not have had the chance of employment to be in the right place at the right time to save that man’s life and if I had not been there the gentleman would not be alive today as stated by the air ambulance service. Thank you to Colin and PeoplePlus for all the hard work they do”.
