Here at PeoplePlus, we give each member of staff a volunteer day each year on top of their holidays to give something back to the community. Our partnerships team decided to use their day to help set up Santa’s Grotto at Groundwork, The Grange Community Centre in Blackpool.
The Partnerships & Development Team spent the day setting up ahead of their Christmas activity schedule by cleaning, hanging decorations, decorating the 3 Christmas trees, helping out in the gardens, gathering materials for their wreath making course and chopping wood. As well as this they got stuck in to support the community library, café, charity shop and food-bank with cleaning, stock replenishment and helping service users.
The centre manager at the Grange explained 300 + children visit the grotto each year as their parents simply don’t have the money to take them to Santa’s Grotto in Blackpool; so the centre make the effort to bring Santa and Christmas to the children.
All in all a great day was had by all and for a very worthy cause.
Why we do it?
The volunteering day is one of the ways that we want PeoplePlus to make a difference to society through making nearly 2,000 days available each year for colleagues to make a difference to a charity or local community cause that matters to them – part of our PeoplePlus in the Community focus.
