PeoplePlus has a vast geographical footprint, and although we like many other companies faced a challenging time in the last year, we were able to flip our delivery model, so all of our programmes could be delivered online.
With a mission of ‘to make a direct difference to the lives of 1 million people by 2022’ we are well on our way, and have helped over 500,000 people since 2018. Recently we supported 88 learners from the North West Ambulance Service achieve their Functional Skills Maths and English qualifications, which were needed to progress their careers from Patient Transport Assistants(PTS) to Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to Paramedics.
The online Level 2 Functional maths and English courses take learners around 4-12 weeks to complete. This can vary depending on time available to study, demands of work during a pandemic and taking annual leave. We tailored our learning to suit these requirements as around 50% only needed one of the two qualifications. Through our flexible learning plan, learners are fully supported and the tutor checks in with them every 7 days via teams/zoom to offer additional advice and guidance. Delivering Functional Skills via distance learning has meant that NWAS staff can access learning materials during out of work hours and can study whenever and wherever suits them.
We caught up with the Paula Davies – Head of Education at North West Ambulance Service who said:
“PeoplePlus has supported our staff with the underpinning qualifications needed to realise their career aspirations within our service. Sometimes we do not realise how fundamental workplace functional skills influence how we do a better job for our patients and families, which is why working with PeoplePlus for the delivery of these qualifications has been essential. The Skills Team at PeoplePlus have supported us by providing 1:1 support for our staff in a flexible online delivery model that enables our staff to both access and achieve.”
We are proud to support the North West Ambulance Service and hope to continue providing key support, advice and guidance for other businesses in the North West Region.
