Volunteer Day – Reducing Social Isolation

One of our colleagues in the Enterprise division based in Grater Manchester – Martyn Walsh – Business Coach organises a 50+ group in Manchester, named The Bucket List.  The aim of the group is to reduce social isolation in the area and encourage greater participation and interaction of its members.

In January they arranged an afternoon tea visit to Cloud 23 at The Hilton in Manchester, with 65 attendees; Helen Clarke – Marketing Manager gave up her dinner break to come and take photos of the day. It was great to see so many people, both old faces and new, making friends and taking that time to connect with others that they usually wouldn’t have met.

The group also ran a musical event the following Saturday afternoon, with over 150 members enjoying the music, hot food, bingo and dancing.  This event was free, to reach those who experience isolation the most.

George Edwards – Enterprise Team Leader and Ben Speight – Enterprise Co-ordinator gave up their Saturday prior to the event, to help distribute flyers to over a thousand homes in the area, and their dedication ensured that the profile of the Bucket List has risen, meaning that they will be looking for a larger venue for future events.

Daryl Moore – Business Coach and Hannah Jones – Enterprise Co-ordinator helped out on the day of the event; decorating the venue, preparing rum punch and being on hand throughout the day to help out.  Hannah also took some photos.

Martyn told us “I’m really proud how selflessly my colleagues helped out. Both events were a real success and the other Bucket List volunteers really appreciated the extra support the PeoplePlus Enterprise staff provided!”

Another great example of why PeoplePlus offer a volunteer day for each of our staff every year to give back to the community.
