Carers Week 2024 is taking place this week. It is a national campaign raising awareness about unpaid Carers and the vital role they play in society.

This year’s theme is ‘Putting Carers on the Map’, it’s aim is to:

Carers Week Significance

Millions of people across the UK support someone they could be a family member or friend, these individuals may require support due to illness, disability, mental health conditions, addiction or age-related needs.

Despite their crucial role, many unpaid Carers feel unrecognised and unsupported. This Carers Week, our very own Carers Hub in Gloucestershire will have members of the team out and about throughout the county raising the profile of unpaid Carers within the community and ‘Putting Carers on the Map’.

Gloucestershire Carers Hub: Supporting Employers and Employees

The Gloucestershire Carers Hub offers ‘The Employer Toolkit’ to businesses, this initiative recognises that many employees juggle work with caring responsibilities.

By providing support for these employees, the toolkit can support businesses become more Carer-friendly, leading to benefits for both employers and staff.

If you have employees who support someone, the toolkit could support you in making your workforce more Carer aware: Employer Toolkit - Gloucestershire Carers Hub

One in seven workers in the UK are unpaid Carers

The Employer Toolkit empowers businesses to identify and support these employees. By implementing the Employer Toolkit's recommendations, businesses can expect to see several advantages:

Improved Employee Retention: Supporting Carers can help businesses retain valuable and experienced staff who might otherwise struggle to balance work and caring duties.

Enhanced Employee Wellbeing: Feeling supported by their employer can significantly reduce stress and improve the overall well-being of Carer employees, leading to increased productivity and morale.

Positive Employer Branding: Becoming a Carer-aware employer demonstrates compassion and social responsibility, which can attract and retain top talent in a competitive job market.
