Scotland Team Celebrate Robert Burns and Maulana Jalal Ad-Din (Rum)!
This week some of our team in PeoplePlus Scotland attended, alongside partners, the annual supper for Robert Burns and Maulana Jalal Ad-Din (Rum). The event was organised by Glasgow Afghan United who are a fantastic organisation that we have been working with to support the Afghani community in Glasgow.
The night included wonderful speakers, fantastic poetry, traditional music, and contributions from the amazing Glasgow Afghan United School pupils, all in the beautiful setting of the Banqueting Hall in Glasgow City Chambers.
Delivered in the spirit of both Burns and Rumi, the event provided a platform for members of Scotland’s diverse communities to mix. In attendance was New Scots of many backgrounds, including Glasgow Afghan United members, as well as representatives from local government, the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Government, and other key partner agencies from civic Scotland.
As well as PeoplePlus staff in attendance was Jim Johnstone from Morrison Construction, Blyth Deans from the Lennox Partnership and Evilina Ditkute from Sodexo.
Our thanks also go to Councillor Abdul Bostani. Councillor Bostani is the local Councillor for the Maryhill Ward in Glasgow and the Managing Director of Glasgow Afghan United for the warm invite.
