National Volunteers Week

At PeoplePlus, our purpose is simple: to make a positive difference to people’s lives every single day. For many of our colleagues, that includes a very personal commitment, using their paid volunteering day to support causes that matter to them.

As we mark Volunteers Week (2nd-8th June), we wanted to share some of the work of our charity partners, and our colleagues who have already done some serious fundraising this year. Firstly, a spotlight on how some of our colleagues have used their volunteering day:

We’re also proud to support some incredible corporate charity partners including Amber’s Army and our sister charity Rise Up.

Amber’s Army was set up in memory of a little girl who made a big impact. Their annual events, including AmberFest (5 July) and the Amber’s Army Ball (27 September), raise vital funds to support families and children with complex needs.

Meanwhile, Rise Up the pioneering youth employment charity dedicated to breaking barriers and empowering young people into sustainable careers is preparing for its biggest event of the year - Rise Day on 20 June. This year’s fundraising target will fund a Programmes Admin Apprenticeship for a young person who might otherwise be locked out of the charity sector. With less than 6% of charity roles held by under-25s, this is about more than one job - it’s about building a future pipeline of changemakers.

One Day, Big Impact

In the UK, around 14 million people volunteer regularly, that’s roughly one in four adults giving their time each month to support others. It also has a measurable economic impact - estimates from Pro Bono Economics put the value of UK volunteering at over £23 billion per year. It's affects across society show that volunteering improves mental wellbeing, builds stronger communities, and can even help people develop new skills and confidence. It brings people together, builds trust, and creates a sense of shared responsibility.

For employers, encouraging volunteering makes business sense too. It boosts morale, supports personal development, and shows that we value more than just the bottom line.

Volunteering is time well spent - for everyone involved.
