Supporting World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) takes place annually on 10 September.
The World Suicide Prevention Day was established in 2003 by The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). It is a moment to reflect, raise awareness, and stand together in support of those affected by suicide and mental health challenges.
This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative” reminds us of the power we each hold to reduce stigma, encourage empathy, and encourage open conversations.
At PeoplePlus, we strive to create a culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. Whether we are working directly with individuals in our communities or supporting colleagues across teams, our compassion and care make a difference. Today, we invite you to:
- Pause and reflect: Take a moment to remember those we've lost and those who continue to struggle.
- Share resources: We have included links below to a short video and helplines and support organisations, please feel free to share with anyone who may benefit.
- Start a conversation: A simple check-in with someone can be a lifeline.
- Light a candle at 8pm: Join others across the UK in lighting a candle to show support and solidarity.
Our partner Laura Burke from Laura Burke Training & Consultancy, who recently delivered Mental Health First Aider Training for some of our colleagues, shares in a short video on why open conversations about suicide matter and how each of us can play a role in supporting others.
Start the conversation, show empathy, compassion and support to those who need it most! You don’t need all the answers, don’t be afraid to talk.
