Can you offer employment opportunities at the new eco-prison HMP Millsike?
PeoplePlus will be supporting 1,000’s of prisoners for the next 10 years at the UK’s first all-electric prison, HMP Millsike.
We would love to accommodate your business in our workshops. This is not training. This is real work. Work that produces outcomes for your business as well as society with product quality control and prisoner supervision provided by PeoplePlus’s Instructors.
We would love to partner with you to provide meaningful employment for the men here – to prepare them for release and give them meaningful routes to employment.
What could this look like?
Your business will:
- Purchase the equipment needed to manufacture your product ― this can be as simple as the tables needed to assemble parts, through to the technical tools to manufacture products
- Provide the materials for the prisoners to manufacture your product
- Pay prisoners for their work in line with PSO 4460 (typically £10-15pp per day)
PeoplePlus will:
- Provide Instructors to manage your workshop
- Provide the dedicated workforce
- Co-design training and quality assurance measures with you
- Train and supervise prisoners
- Be your single point of contact in the prison
Mitie Care & Custody will:
- Provide the premises and security
- Help you fit out the workshop to your requirements
- Organise deliveries in and out of the prison
- Ensure prisoners are paid accurately
HMP Millsike has a mixture of large and small workshops suitable for a range of industries, such as:
- Engineering: machining, metal fabrication and powder paint coating
- Woodworking: crafting, remodelling and assembly
- Printing: modern printing, folding, collating and binding
- Manual assembly: component assembly, testing units and packing kits
- Call centre: telephone support for existing customers or contact new ones.
The key benefits
Employing prisoners benefits everyone
- You’re giving prisoners meaningful work experience, which develops their skills, changes their views on life and increases their chances of getting work on release
- Prisoners who find work on release are significantly less likely to reoffend, which makes our communities safer and saves taxpayers money
- It is cost effective as there is no need to recruit, quality assurance and supervision is provided for you
- It reduces your carbon footprint and contributes to the local economy by manufacturing in Yorkshire
- It demonstrates your commitment to your Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets by supporting rehabilitation, social recruitment and sustainable practices.
