We support people where health, care, wellbeing and work meet
PeoplePlus' Health & Care delivers education in NHS secure hospitals and support for unpaid carers in Gloucestershire, and works with our employability teams on health-focused programmes such as Connect to Work. Each service is designed around the person rather than the organisation, and each works inside the wider system of clinical teams, local authorities, employers and community partners that people rely on.
We bring more than 30 years of public service delivery to this work - running the UK's largest prison education service and delivering the Restart Scheme, meaning we understand how health, caring, justice and employment affect each other in people's lives.
How we work
- Strengths based - Support starts with what a person can already do and what they want for themselves, assessed at the first conversation and revisited at each review.
- Trauma informed - Colleagues are trained to recognise the effect of trauma and to create settings where people feel safe enough to take part, which matters in secure hospitals and in carers' lives alike.
- Co-produced - People who use our services help shape them. In secure hospitals, courses are planned and delivered with learners and the clinical team, including our Recovery College courses.
- Evidence based - Our services follow national guidance, including NICE guidelines, and are overseen through the PeoplePlus Clinical Governance Framework.
Our Work
Education in secure hospitals - Since 2018 we have delivered education inside NHS secure and specialist inpatient settings, working as part of the multidisciplinary team to support recovery, rehabilitation and discharge.
Gloucestershire Carers Hub - Providing support for unpaid carers across Gloucestershire since 2019. The Hub has supported more than 18,500 carers and is a finalist at the Carers UK Awards 2026.
Connect to Work - Employment support for people whose health, disability or circumstances make work harder to reach, delivered in partnership in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire as part of Get Britain Working.
Trusted by the NHS
In December 2025 PeoplePlus was appointed to the NHS Social Impact Framework under Theme 2, Community Led Services for Social Impact, across four lots: employment support and skills, mental health and emotional wellbeing, offender rehabilitation and criminal justice support, and carer support and respite.
Governed with care
Our health and care work is overseen by named senior leaders and the PeoplePlus Clinical Governance Framework, which is aligned to the CQC fundamental standards and NICE guidance. It sits alongside our safeguarding, information governance and quality frameworks, and our ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications. Read more
Part of a wider organisation
Health and care outcomes depend on more than one service. Our Health & Care teams work with colleagues across PeoplePlus to connect people to the next step:
- Employability programmes across England, Scotland and Wales
- Prison education in around 50 prisons, including every Scottish Prison Service establishment
- Social value services, including the Social Recruitment Framework and the Social Recruitment Covenant, which connect employers with people facing barriers to work
- LearningPlus training, including funded care qualifications
We also work with specialist partners including Genius Within, Togetherall and the Centre for Ageing Better.
