Brewing Confidence: George Finds His Blend of Passion and Purpose

George joined The Restart Scheme in Tonbridge with a brief background in the hospitality industry and a clear passion for working with and caring for animals. Like many young people finishing their education, he faced uncertainty about which career path to follow. Although he was eager to enter the workforce, George found it challenging to secure employment in a sector aligned with his interests, and he was unaware of the range of opportunities available to him.
From the outset, George showed commitment to his journey by attending all scheduled appointments with his Employment Advisor. These sessions proved invaluable, offering him the chance to explore his options and build confidence through in-depth discussions with a trainer. With limited experience in the hospitality sector, George initially lacked confidence, but with the right support, he quickly began to grow in self-belief.
A key step in his progress was developing a tailored CV that showcased not just his limited work history, but his strong potential and transferable skills. As George became more focused, he expressed a keen interest in becoming a barista seeking both practical experience and professional training in the field.
In response, Darren, Employer Relationship Manager, arranged several recruitment sessions to outline current opportunities in his area of interest. Through this process, George was successfully connected with a role at Costa Coffee, based in Pembury Hospital. The position offered full training, allowing him to build his customer service and barista skills from the ground up.
George started the role on a part-time basis, and within three months, his hard work and dedication paid off his hours were increased, and he received glowing feedback from his manager, who described him as “a delight to have working with us.”
Now, George is thriving in his role and looking forward to completing his barista training in the coming weeks. He is proud of how far he has come and is excited about the future, having built a solid foundation in a sector that truly motivates him.
