Building Futures, One Step at a Time

When Angela joined the Fair Start Scotland programme in Glasgow, she was looking for support to build her confidence and explore her next steps. Like many others, she had faced challenges that made moving into work feel out of reach. But with the right support, Angela began to find her way forward.
With the guidance of Lead Trainer David Matthew, Angela got involved in a wide range of activities aimed at boosting wellbeing and motivation. From group sessions like “Walk and Talk” and “Good to Gab” to practical training and confidence-building workshops, she was supported to develop at her own pace.
Speaking about David’s support, Angela said:
“The courses were brilliant – you were so good at it! Thanks for all the great times taking us for a walk. I’ll miss the walks and you; you made everyone’s day by being so nice.”
Angela also joined the popular “Glasgow for Beginners” course, which helped her connect with others. Along the way, she made new friends, found her voice, and started to see a more positive future ahead.
Although Angela hasn’t moved into work just yet, she feels she’s in a much better place to do so. Her confidence has grown, her outlook has changed, and she’s proud of how far she’s come.
Angela’s journey shows that progress isn’t always about reaching the finish line – sometimes, it’s about finding the strength to take that first step.
