Carers Rights Day 2024

It’s Carers Rights Day, the theme this year is recognising your rights..

Today, we join many organisations in making sure that unpaid Carers are able to access information surrounding their rights. Unpaid Carers provide essential care and support to individuals who could be family, friends or neighbours, often at great personal expense.

Gloucestershire Carers Hub is committed to empowering unpaid Carers with the knowledge, and resources they need to advocate for their rights and access the support they deserve.

Following on from our success of touring the outer parts of the county with the support of Gloucestershire NHS Bus over the last few weeks, we are holding an event in Shurdington today for unpaid Carers to access information and support from a range of organisations.

If you are providing unpaid support to someone, there will be a Carer service near you who can provide support and information for you. You can find out more about your local service by visiting: Support where you live | Carers UK

What are your Rights?

The right to a Carer’s Assessment

The right to engage in employment, education, training and leisure

The right to choose whether or not to be a Carer

The right to self-determine willingness and ability to care

The right to be supported to identify which of the cared-for’s needs you might be willing and able to support

The right for the Carer’s views to be considered by Social Services when organising provision for the cared-for person

On Carers Rights Day, take some time to reflect on your own needs and to make sure that you are getting the support that you need.
