Carers Rights Day 2025 – Know your rights, use your rights
Today marks Carers Rights Day, an important opportunity to ensure unpaid carers know their rights and feel empowered to use them. This year’s theme is “Know your rights, use your rights”
Every day, thousands of people become unpaid carers for family members, friends, or neighbours often without recognising themselves as carers. Many are unaware of the legal rights and support available to help ease the challenges of caring.
Our Commitment to Carers
At PeoplePlus, we are dedicated to empowering unpaid carers with the knowledge and resources they need. Over the past few weeks, our Gloucestershire Carers Hub have toured the county with the Gloucestershire NHS Bus, sharing vital information. Today, we’re hosting an event in Gloucester where carers can access advice and support from a range of organisations.
Your Rights
Unpaid carers have important legal protections and entitlements, including:
- Carer’s Leave Act – Up to 5 days unpaid leave per year for employees juggling work and care.
- Flexible Working – The right to request flexible working arrangements.
- Priority Vaccinations – Eligibility for flu and COVID-19 vaccines; register as a carer with your GP.
- Protection from Discrimination
- Carer’s Assessment – Identify your needs and access support.
- Hospital Discharge – Hospitals must involve carers in discharge planning where possible.
