Confidence, Courage, and Care: Rose’s Restart Success Story

At 22 years old, Rose had never been in employment. After two years of working with the Jobcentre, she was still unsure how to take the next step into the world of work. That’s when her Work Coach introduced her to The Restart Scheme, explaining how it could help build her confidence and provide tailored support with job searching and applications.
Rose was introduced to the PeoplePlus team in Sunderland and began attending a range of development courses with Garry, one of the programme’s trainers. Over several weeks, she took part in sessions focused on building confidence, increasing motivation, improving teamwork skills, and preparing for interviews. She also completed the “24 Pathway” programme, which gave her further tools to prepare for the workplace.
Once Rose had completed her training, her Employment Advisor stepped in to support her with job searching. Together, they reviewed opportunities and worked on job applications, waiting until Rose felt ready to apply. With renewed confidence and a broader outlook, Rose began exploring roles that were outside her comfort zone - positions she wouldn’t have previously considered.
This open-minded approach paid off. Rose applied for a role in a care home and was delighted to be offered the position. She began working at the end of March and is now settling into her new role with enthusiasm and pride.
Looking ahead, Rose is determined to turn this opportunity into a long-term career. She is focused on developing her skills and progressing in the care sector over the next few years.
Reflecting on her experience, Rose shared:
“The support I’ve had from Sharon is amazing. I’ve done more in the last two months working with her than ever before.”
