Finalists for Excellence in Social Value at the GO Awards Scotland 2026
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS), City of Glasgow College and PeoplePlus are finalists for the Excellence in Social Value Award at the GO Awards Scotland 2026.
Our joint entry is named after SPS’s education strategy, Learning for a Better Future, and covers education and employability across Scotland’s prisons. Its social value case is straightforward: in this contract, the community benefit and the contracted service are the same thing. Every learning session delivered in custody contributes to the return to the public purse and to the communities people go home to. The evidence sits in the figures the contract already reports, with qualification achievement rates rising from 53.7% to 69.4%.
People who start learning in prison can leave with a route into college or a job, and SPS wrote that route into the contract from the start. PeoplePlus delivers learning and employability support in all 16 of Scotland’s prisons and connects people with employers, while City of Glasgow College is building the path into a college place. Together, we have designed the whole service around where people go next.
This recognition belongs to the education teams in every establishment, and to our colleagues at SPS and City of Glasgow College who are building this service with us. We are sharing the category with nine other finalists from councils, colleges and housing partners across Scotland, and we look forward to celebrating with them at the ceremony in Glasgow on 29 October.
