From Remote to Remarkable: Anthony’s First Steps into Work
Anthony joined The Restart Scheme at the age of 23 years old, with no previous employment experience due to living remotely and having very low confidence. He wasn’t sure what to expect but did want to find work.
The Restart team in Kent started supporting Anthony by offering him various training courses to upskill him and boost his confidence levels. This included a course that focused on his interview skills – essential considering he had no experience of this – as well as a taster session in the Customer Services Sector. Completing this allowed him to get his first role as a Temporary Casual Assistant in a well-known sports shop, providing him with one month of valuable experience in a fast-paced customer service environment. When this ended Anthony met up with the PeoplePlus Fast Response Advisor James within the Restart team who began offering intense support to further his development.
Anthony was advised to join the Jobs Club by PeoplePlus Employment Relationship Manager, Darren who started to put Anthony forward for a range of different vacancies. And although Anthony performed well in interviews, he was consistently runner up to people who had more experience than he did. During a meeting with James, Darren approached them both with an exclusive Customer Service opportunity with a well-known local employer. The employer was seeking 2 new staff members but because Darren already had a good existing relationship with them, they were willing to bypass the interview stage as long as Darren was confident in the candidate’s ability. This meant Anothony could start work immediately!
Anthony accepted the opportunity without hesitation. The manager has been highly impressed with his performance and has since offered Anothony a permanent role which he is delighted about.
