Off to University for Welsh Artist Bethany
Bethany Jenkinson took part in our Traineeship service in West Wales, a programme for young people aged 16-19 pick up the skills and knowledge they need to get a job or progress into other learning opportunities.
Over the last year Bethany has taken part in training and work experience with a local art & design company and has gone from strength to strength. Bethany already had a talent for design but throughout her placement she has developed her skills even further by designing images (often through personal requests of customers) and glass blowing the image on to items such as paper weights, plates, galls windows and lamps, which are then sold online.
Bethany had a dream of becoming an artist but she suffers with anxiety and when she started with us, she lacked self-confidence, self- belief and the employability skills that she would need to progress.
With consistent support and encouragement, Bethany has shown enormous growth and made fantastic progress towards her end goal. The PeoplePlus team have helped Bethany to apply for University on a Foundation Course in Art and Design. She was nervous at first, but her passion left a positive impression on those who interviewed her. Despite one of the interview panel saying that they would be taking a risk on Bethany going to University as she did not have any A-Levels, Bethany did not let this put her off and proceeded to present her portfolio of work. The panel of 3 interviewers were extremely impressed with all her work examples, enthusiasm and the experience and skills she gained through her Traineeship.
We’re so excited that Bethany has been offered an unconditional place at the University of Trinity St David to start in September! Bethany has learnt that your dreams can come true and that a Talent such as the one she has in creative arts should never go to waste. We wish her all the best for the future!
