roundtable to discuss reoffending rates in the UK

Too many people leave prison without a job and without the right support, the cycle of reoffending continues. While employment rates for prison leavers are improving, nearly 7 in 10 are still out of work six months after release. We know that having a job is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle — it can cut reoffending by up to 9 percentage points.

That’s why we were delighted to host a round table, hosted by Mitie, uniting employers who share a passion and drive to create real employment pathways for people leaving prison. With over twenty experts in the room, this was more than a discussion, it was about finding practical, collaborative solutions to ensure prison leavers have the skills, training, and opportunities they need to succeed.

As a follow on to this round table, we will be showcasing a series of videos hearing from key contributors, concluding with an insights paper in the Summer. Keep updated here, as well as following our company LinkedIn account.

Below is the first video, featuring the Social Recruitment Advocacy Group Chair, the Rt.Hon Anne Milton, who chaired the round table. She shares her top five things that need to happen if we are to reduce reoffending rates.
