Poppies to Paddington: Honouring Service and Sacrifice
This morning, on Armistice Day (11 November 2024) at 8:31 AM, volunteers and staff from Gloucestershire Carers Hub as part of PeoplePlus placed a poppy wreath from PeoplePlus at Stroud train station as part of the ‘Poppies to Paddington’ event.
Now in its sixth year, Poppies to Paddington, organised in collaboration with The Veterans Charity, featured ten Great Western Railway (GWR) services carrying hundreds of wreaths from communities across the network. Upon arrival in London, these wreaths were laid at the war memorial in Paddington Station ahead of a Service of Remembrance, honouring those who served.
As part of this initiative ,the daughter of one of our volunteers, who is also a Carer and part of the veteran community, contributed a heartfelt poem that was sent along with the wreaths on the train. This personal touch reflects the deep connection between caring and service within our community.
In addition to today’s tribute, some of our volunteers joined our Armed Forces Lead in observing the two minute’s silence in Stroud and laid a wreath in Stonehouse on Remembrance Sunday.
We are immensely proud to honour and support those who have served and continue to serve.
