We’re thrilled to share the inspiring story of Ailsa, a talented finalist from The Great Sewing Bee! Her passion for sewing has not only earned her recognition on television but has also opened doors to new opportunities that benefit our community.
With the support of her PeoplePlus business advisor, Ian, Ailsa successfully secured the GCC start-up grant award, enabling her to take her sewing expertise to the next level. Ian has been instrumental in providing guidance, helping her navigate sponsorship offers for equipment and discussing various opportunities afforded to her as a finalist. Their regular catchups have also covered essential topics like mental wellbeing, ensuring Ailsa feels supported in all aspects of her journey.
Together, they developed a comprehensive business plan and cash flow to strengthen her grant application and explored the Prince’s Trust grant application process. In their discussions, they touched on critical elements for Ailsa’s business, such as choosing a suitable legal structure, identifying suppliers, and the importance of having proper insurance coverage.
Ailsa has secured a Brand Ambassador role with Singer which speaks volumes about her skills and reputation in the industry. Additionally, she has launched training classes for individuals eager to learn sewing, covering everything from the basics to advanced techniques. We’re excited to report that her first classes are fully booked!
Ailsa has also benefited from training opportunities with The Kiltmakery to further her own sewing skills.
