Way2Learn Reaches the 2000 Milestone at HMP Manchester

In 2022 PeoplePlus’ in-cell learning technology Way2Learn partnered with the University of West England (UWE Bristol) to offer a life-long digital credential certificate for their online learning courses. This means prisoners who successfully complete one of the sixteen courses on offer can add this university recognised qualification to their CV. And on the certificate is a unique QR code that employers can scan to see exactly what they learnt. The courses have something for everyone, from maths and creative writing to sector specific courses such as construction, LGV theory and warehousing. There are also mental health and disability awareness courses.
This month HMP Manchester who offer Way2Learn to their prisoners has reached a significant milestone! Over 2,000 learners have completed one of our courses! This means 2,000 prisoners who, on release will be able to walk into a job interview with a dual badged certificate from PeoplePlus and UWE Bristol.
Laura Mitchell, Learning & Skills Manager at HMP Manchester comments “Way2Learn has been an invaluable resource for HMP Manchester. As in many prisons, we have been experiencing operational staffing shortages and Way2Learn has enabled prisoners to continue to learn about a variety of subjects. The workbooks and videos are really engaging and our prisoners have really responded to them with over 2000 workbooks completed. The new work focused workbooks are really useful to support us in engaging prisoners in our employment pathways whilst they are on a waiting list for an activity too.”
Jezz Wright Director of Content & Digital Strategy at PeoplePlus said “This amazing achievement by HMP Manchester clearly demonstrates the continued need for a flexible and blended approach to prison education. Whilst video-based in-cell learning will never be a complete replacement for tutor-led learning, it provides a much-needed bridge for those who had struggled with classroom activities in the past.”
