Chris Leslie presenting to the SRAG

Every time the Social Recruitment Advocacy Group meets face-to-face, it creates social value, and the first agenda of 2024 has been no exception. For the first time, the SRAG was hosted by a member organisation, Openreach, introducing colleagues located at their stunning Birmingham offices, and providing attendees travelling from all over the UK with an ideal setting for the morning's activities. The views from the 18th floor conference suite were the perfect talking point while making new connections, or taking a moment to reflect on the shared purpose of the group, as explained by Kenny Boyle in the video below.

Members were introduced to a new digital portal, co-designed by LearningPlus, the PeoplePlus e-learning platform. The portal will be the go-to member space for all things social recruitment, containing Toolkits on Supporting Prison Leavers and Unpaid Carers to date, an archive of lunch and learn events and assessment, social value calculations and Charter Mark documentation for easy access and sharing with stakeholders.

Members also became the first influential group to review the draft Social Recruitment Covenant, which PeoplePlus will launch in Parliament in June, with support from The RT Hon Anne Milton, Chair of the SRAG and backed by the signatures of early adopting pioneers in the SRAG.

Two specialist partners presented together for the first time; Viki Carpenter from the Association of Accessible Employers and Chris Leslie from EOS who shared an immersive presentation about neurodiversities in particular with prison leavers and what employers can do to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate and support employees.

Four members received their first Charter mark levels - providing them an evidence-based, publicly stated symbol of their commitment to creating social value via best practice social recruitment. They are Karndean Design Flooring - Bronze, Smart Environmental Solutions Services - Silver, Keltruck - Gold and Openreach - Gold. Each mark represents the focus and dedication of people in these organisations who want to create a fairer society via the power of access to good work, and progression through the levels means more opportunity for those who most need support.

The next SRAG conference will be in London in June, the venue to be decided. Perhaps your company would like to host this value-creating event? To find out more, email us at [email protected]
