Nurturing understanding of Neurodiversity in the workplace.

Kenny Boyle, Managing Director, PeoplePlus, in discussion at SRAG, February 2023.

Creating social value isn't an exact science, but we are working on making it a lot more achievable and measurable in our work with the Social Recruitment Advocacy Group (SRAG)

It’s almost time for the next meeting - SRAG members and invited guests will come together for a packed, three-hour session on the 16th of May, in Euston, London. Its not a 'talking shop' - as the Chair, Anne Milton, always emphasises!

The group is both a space and a platform for employers to get in the room with experts who can test understanding on inclusion, check for unconscious bias and help face knowledge gaps in collaborative, non-judgmental ways.

One of the themes of the upcoming session is neurodiversity, specifically sensory overload and how employers can better appreciate the impact of overstimulation on those with neurodiversity in the workplace.

PeoplePlus’s Social Value partner and SRAG member, the Association of Accessible Employers, led by the inspirational Viki Carpenter (pictured above and featuring in the video below) are planning an immersive learning experience for SRAG attendees. By reflecting on the experience together, in the moment, the goal is to support attendees to produce ideas that will benefit from immediate feedback. Solutions can be built that reflect different contexts from employer to employer, with fresh inspiration behind them.

Its this process that can build consensus for a range of best practice, actionable suggestions that should improve the workplace for all, just one of the many ways to create social value. Its the 'art of the possible' writ large, with big, ambitious goals to change society for the better.

Approaching a potential barrier to employment using experiential learning and development work is just one aspect of the benefits of being in the room with individuals from likeminded organisations - there are many more!

Do you represent an organisation able to offer insight and expertise to a range of successful businesses for the benefit of people experiencing barriers to employment or who need help to sustain the work they may have struggled to access?

Are you an employer who needs to address how to add social value by including more people with barriers to employment in your workforce - while broadening your network?

Emma Grigson, Partnerships and Social Value Solutions Director and Liz Squire, Head of Employer Management, would be delighted to speak with you today on how you can get involved.
