SRAG Partner Spotlight

RideTandem

The shuttle bus service helping millions of people get to work

Introducing RideTandem - a Social Recruitment Advocacy Group (SRAG) partner since 2024.

The SRAG was set up to encourage employers to recruit people who face challenges securing employment. This could be people with disabilities, young people, unpaid carers or those leaving the criminal justice system.

RideTandem CEO, Alex Shapland-Howes, said: "We’re super excited to partner with SRAG, an organisation that shares our commitment to making employment accessible to all.

“Together, we're working to remove obstacles that prevent so many people from getting to work and help businesses find the workers they need."

On the same journey

Founded by (left to right below) Tatseng Chiam, Alex Shapland-Howes and Huw McLeod, RideTandem supports people struggling to get to work alongside helping businesses recruit and retain staff.

Insight to inform their service is gathered first hand, from people with lived experience. It was meeting a group of unemployed dads in Rochdale, just outside Manchester, that initially educated Alex about the problems they were having finding work. The biggest barrier was transportation. Without local jobs or reliable public transport, the dads struggled to provide for their families.

This revelation sparked the creation of RideTandem in 2019.

The team has grown rapidly in the five years since their launch!

Since then, the team's shuttle bus services have driven many achievements - including:

For RideTandem, the partnership with the SRAG is a significant milestone in their journey towards creating affordable, reliable, and sustainable commuter services. For the SRAG, this vibrant organisation represents the very best of thinking differently to provide life chances via employment.

Partnering with like-minded businesses

The collaboration between RideTandem and SRAG majors on the strengths of both organisations to make a difference in recruitment. SRAG members like Staffline Recruitment, Lidl and Mitie share the common goal of tapping into overlooked talent and addressing barriers based on social capital, ethnicity, or disability.

The first B Corp certified shuttle service

Earlier this year, RideTandem became the first, and only, B Corp certified shuttle bus service.

Started in 2006 by B Lab, businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency are able to become B Corp certified.

We are also delighted to report that RideTandem have recently signed the SRAG Social Recruitment Covenant - further underlining their commitment to create a fairer job market.
