Anthony joined The Restart Scheme at the age of 23 years old, with no previous employment experience due to living remotely and having very low confidence. He wasn’t sure what to expect but did want to find work. The Restart team in Kent started supporting Anthony by offering him various training courses to upskill him and boost his confidence levels. This included a course that focused on his interview skills – essential considering he had no experience of this – as well as a taster session in the Customer Services Sector. Today marks Carers Rights Day, an important opportunity to ensure unpaid carers know their rights and feel empowered to use them. This year’s theme is “Know your rights, use your rights” Every day, thousands of people become unpaid carers for family members, friends, or neighbours often without recognising themselves as carers. Many are unaware of the legal rights and support available to help ease the challenges of caring.

Poppies to Paddington: Honouring Service and Sacrifice On Armistice Day, volunteers and staff from Gloucestershire Carers Hub, as part of PeoplePlus, placed a poppy wreath at Stroud station for the sixth annual ‘Poppies to Paddington’ event. Hundreds of wreaths travelled by train to Paddington Station for a Service of Remembrance. A heartfelt poem from the daughter of one of our volunteers, who is also a Carer and part of the veteran community, accompanied the wreaths, symbolising the deep connection between caring and service. Brandon joined the Restart Scheme in June 2025. He was unsure about how much the Restart Scheme could help him due to his previous experiences on employability programmes. Having recently relocated from Scotland, Brandon was finding it difficult to adjust to his new environment and surroundings which left him feeling understandably nervous. During his appointment, he raised all his concerns. The team were able to talk it all through with him and reassure him that they were there to offer guidance and support throughout his journey.

“It’s good to know what you offer.” – Mr. J’s Story Mr. J wasn’t in crisis when he called our Carers Hub, he just wanted to plan ahead. As a carer for his wife, recently diagnosed with dementia, he’s managing a lot, including his own health. In one supportive conversation, we explored emergency planning, financial help, transport options, and practical dementia strategies. Mr. J left feeling reassured and better prepared. “Thanks very much for calling, it’s good to know what you offer.”
